Keep Health Insurance

Community Health Advocates also helps people keep their health insurance coverage, either public or commercial, once they are enrolled.

Recertification

A person with Medicaid, Family Health Plus or Child Health Plus MUST recertify every year to keep the coverage. The renewal form makes sure that the client’s information is up to date and that they are still eligible for the same program. If a person does not recertify, their coverage will STOP.

The most common reason why people don’t recertify is because they do not understand the renewal form.  Language barriers can also prevent people from filling out the form they receive. You can receive renewal forms in a number of languages in addition to English. Please contact Community Health Advocates for more details.

Recertification is simple with a little help. Community Health Advocates has developed a Guide to Recertification to walk you through the recertification process to make sure you keep your health coverage. Click on the guide in the language of your choice here.

COBRA

Sometimes people lose their health insurance because of changes at work. Many times, a cut in working hours or a lay-off can lead to an individual or their family losing the insurance they had through work.

Luckily, a federal law called COBRA lets many people continue to buy their health insurance in these types of situations. To make COBRA more affordable, Congress has created a short-term program to help people who are laid off to pay their COBRA premiums. Please click here here to learn more about COBRA and the premium assistance program.

Even if you are not eligible for COBRA or cannot afford the premiums, contact us for help accessing the health care you need if you have had a change in your employment.
